FEBRUARY 2012

Welcome back to another outstanding edition of Genxeffect.com.  I went to see Pressing Strings' CD Release Party at the beginning of last month.  It was interesting and there were lots of new faces, but I've decided to shelf the article in favor of something a little more fun?

TOP TEN GIFT IDEAS

The following is a list of my top ten favorite gift-giving ideas of all time.  Whether it's Valentine's Day or any other day of the year, these ideas will  wow 'em without putting too big a dent in your pocket!

10 - The Serenade is a great way to get your significant other's attention, and it's FREE!  Of course there are many things to consider before deciding to bellow out a tune.  Can you sing?!  If you can't, DO NOT serenade him or her in a public place.  That's not cool!  If you can sing, let it fly.  Also make sure that the song has some significance to the person being serenaded.

9 - Handmade Gifts are a terrific way to show you care for someone who also cares about you.  There is a segment of the population who may find handmade gifts uncool, but you don't want to give your heart to a person like that anyway!  A painting, card, letter, or any other artful creation that shows that you've put in a little time and effort should do the trick.

8 - A Traditional Card is another good way to show you care.  The key is to take the time to pick a card that is relevant.  No one wants a generic card.  Go to a shop that sells more unique cards so that the recipient can feel as special as you intended them to feel.

7 - Candy is a double-edged sword.  There are reasons why people cannot have candy.  Some reasons are health related, and some people just do not like chocolate - believe it or not.  So I consider candy to be a gift for someone you know pretty well.  If there are no health concerns and you know they are crazy about chocolate covered peanuts, then give them the hookup!

6 - Flowers are like candy in that they can remind people of good AND bad times.  It's best to give flowers to someone you KNOW will like and appreciate them.  Roses are a holiday favorite, but they don't stand out as much as they used to.  If it is your intention to profess your undying love for another, then the red rose(s) remains the standard.  If that's not your intention, there are so many other types of flowers that may express your intentions much better than a rose.

5 - Travel is awesome, but it doesn't have to break the bank.  Planning is the key.  A trip can be as simple as a stroll through the neighborhood.  Learning the names of flowers along the route or offering to window shop at a jewelry shop along the route will work better than you ever dreamed.  Just DON'T MISREPRESENT YOUR INTENTIONS.

4 - A Declaration of true love is as romantic as it gets.  There is nothing more moving than true words spoken from a true heart.  To add ambience, make sure the time and place are well thought out.  Walmart is NOT the place for most people, where a museum or moonlit night on the waterfront would be more appropriate.

3 - A Night On The Town is always appreciated unless the object of your desires hates your guts.  If they're into you, a night on the town only enhances the feelings.  Spending a few dollars can be flattering, but spending too much looks stupid - especially in this economy.  A little dab'l do ya.

2 - A Homemade Meal is more erotic than you might imagine.  If you think about it, the only people who prepare homemade meals in life are the ones who care about you the most.  Grandma or grandpa, mom or dad, auntie or uncle, and your special someone would all be people who would make the list.  This is NOT a good idea if you can't cook, but a true love would appreciate your efforts no matter how the meal turns out.

1 - A Ring is considered by many to be the utmost in romance.  It says it all, unless the parties involved are not on the same page.  As long as you've thought long and hard about investing in the relationship on this level, it is the perfect romantic gift.

Until next month...
